Wife of Amphiaraus in Theban legend, bribed by the golden necklace of Harmonia to send her husband to his death at Thebes. A statue of Eriphyle was among the family heirlooms Verres stripped from the house of the prince Antiochus at Syracuse (In Verrem 2.4).

Greek mythological queen who betrayed her husband Amphiaraus for the necklace of Harmonia; Cicero invokes her as the type of greed inflamed by sight of jewels --- but adds that Verres is the keener case, since he was inflamed without seeing, only on hearing.
