Hero-divinity whose oracle was at Lebadea in Boeotia; during his rite the unceasing crowing of cocks was read as an omen of Theban victory at Leuctra (De Divinatione 1.74).

Trophonius was a chthonic oracular hero whose famous cave-oracle was at Lebadea in Boeotia. The unceasing crowing of cocks there was read as a sign of Theban victory.
