The decurions, members of the local senate (ordo decurionum) of a Roman municipium or colony, the governing council that managed civic affairs and property. In Fam. 13.76 Cicero addresses them together with the quattuorviri of the town.

A recent lex (probably Caesarian) barred those currently practising as praecones (public criers / auctioneers) from holding a seat on the local senate (ordo decurionum) of a municipium; the relief Cicero reports is that the ban was prospective only and did not touch those who had formerly done so. Praecones were considered a disreputable trade, associated with the slave-market and public sales.
