The 'paymaster tribunes,' a propertied class who under the lex Aurelia of 70 BC made up one of the three decuriae (panels) of jurors in the criminal courts, alongside senators and knights.

Under the lex Aurelia of 70 BC criminal juries were drawn from three orders --- senators, knights (equites), and tribuni aerarii --- who voted in separate decuriae. Sextus Clodius's near-acquittal turned on the split between them.
