King of Colchis, son of the Sun and Perseis, father of Medea and Absyrtus. Cotta names him in the genealogy of the Sun's offspring and of Medea.

Aeetes of Colchis, keeper of the Golden Fleece, here imagined mourning the loss of his kingdom (and feigning grief for his daughter Medea). Cicero uses him to show that distress is added by opinion, not imposed by the facts.
