Aeschrio

Aeschrio of Syracuse, a Sicilian-Greek of bad repute, husband (or nominal husband) of Pipa, Verres's mistress. Through that connection he was set up by Verres as a publican collecting the tithes of the territory of Herbita (Verr. 2.3.77) and figures elsewhere as one of the governor's intimates (Verr. 2.2.36). Lampoons about Pipa and Aeschrio were inscribed above the praetor's tribunal at Syracuse.
