A Pythagorean named by Cicero in De Finibus 5.87 among the southern-Italian Pythagoreans (with Echecrates and Timaeus of Locri) from whom Plato learned the discipline of the school. He is otherwise obscure.

Arion of Methymna on Lesbos, the legendary lyric poet who, thrown overboard by pirates, was carried safely to shore on the back of a dolphin charmed by his singing. A proverbial instance of miraculous rescue.
