Probably Sex. Atilius Serranus Gavianus, tribune of the plebs 57 BC; in 54 BC his young son died and his father delivered a eulogy that Cicero had ghost-written. Distinct from the eques Atilius (person:atilius-eques).

Sex. Atilius Serranus, a tribune of 57 BC, used the tribunician veto (intercessio) to block the Senate's decree. A single tribune could thus halt senatorial business, the chief obstructive weapon of the period.
