person
Gaius Cluvius
Cluvius
also: C. Cluvius, CLVVIO, Cluvius
Addressee of Fam. 13.7; held a commission (negotium) from Caesar relating to land in Cisalpine Gaul, suggesting an administrative or land-allocation role. The MS headnote gives praenomen Gaius. Possibly identical with the Marcus Cluvius who was a banker at Puteoli (person:m-cluvius-puteolanus), but the C. praenomen and Gallic commission leave the identification uncertain; flagged as crux.
Reading notes
- Ad Familiares 13.7 §1 CICERO CLVVIO S.
The addressee is named only as 'Cluvius' in the Latin superscription. The headnote of ancient MSS calls him Gaius Cluvius. The registry contains Marcus Cluvius of Puteoli (a banker), but the C. praenomen and the Caesarian land-commission in Gaul suggest a distinct individual; see crux note.
