Gaius Marcellus
also: C. Marcellus, C. Marcello, C. Marcelli
C. Claudius Marcellus, praetor c. 80 BC and governor of Sicily in 79, where his just administration left the island prepared for Verres's contrasting outrages. He is cited repeatedly in the Verrines (Verr. 2.2; 2.4.86) as a fair predecessor and as guarantor of the Heii. Probably the father of the consul of 50 BC.
