A figure of Roman proverb cited in Fam. 7.24, said to have feigned sleep to ignore a wife's adultery, hence the saying 'non omnibus dormio' ('I am not asleep for everyone'). Known only from this proverbial allusion.

A proverb attributed to one Cipius, who pretended to sleep so as to ignore his wife's infidelity but stayed awake for matters that touched him; Cicero applies it to mean he is at no one's beck and call indiscriminately.
