Cn. Octavius, a well-born friend of Trebatius who repeatedly invited Cicero to dinner in 54 BC (Fam. 7.16, and 7.9 where Cicero teases that he forgets whether the man is an Octavius or a Cornelius, 'a son of the earth').

A friend of Cicero of fine character who suffered a long and agonizing illness. Cicero adduces his case to show that severe, protracted pain (which Epicurus's slogans cannot meet) is real, yet does not make a good man wretched.

Cn. Octavius, consul of 165 BC and the first of his family to reach the consulship, was murdered at Laodicea while on an embassy to limit the Seleucid fleet and elephants. His statue on the Rostra is Cicero's closest precedent for Sulpicius.
