Cn. Papirius Carbo, three times consul (85, 84, 82 BC), the leading Marian during the civil war against Sulla. Verres served as his quaestor in 84 and embezzled the army's pay-chest before deserting to Sulla (Verr. 2.1.11, 34-40). Defeated at Clusium and Faventia, Carbo fled to Sicily where he was captured and executed by Pompey in 82.

Cn. Papirius Carbo, three times consul and leader of the Marians, was captured fleeing to Sicily and executed at Lilybaeum on the orders of the young Pompey (then Sulla's agent) in 82 BC. Cicero rates him the most worthless of all the Carbones.
