A Hellenistic poet notorious for his learned obscurity. Cicero names him as excessively obscure, contrasted with Homer, to argue that the gods would not warn men in riddling, unintelligible dreams.

Euphorion of Chalcis (b. c. 275 BC), a learned and obscure Hellenistic poet admired by the avant-garde 'neoteric' poets at Rome. Cicero scornfully calls these modernists 'singers of Euphorion' for despising old Ennius.
