Gaius Matius Calvena, a learned Roman knight, intimate of Julius Caesar and friend of Cicero; after Caesar's death he openly mourned the dictator and helped Octavian stage Caesar's victory games, drawing criticism. Recipient of Fam. 11.27 and author of the reply 11.28.

"Calvena" ("Baldy") is Cicero's mocking nickname for Gaius Matius, Caesar's loyal friend; Matius was offended that Brutus distrusted him for his continuing devotion to the dead dictator's memory.
