Hippias
also: Hippias son of Pisistratus, Hippias the son of Pisistratus
Tyrant of Athens, son of Pisistratus, expelled in 510 BC; he fell at the battle of Marathon (490 BC) fighting on the Persian side against his own city. Cicero cites him as one who criminally bore arms against his fatherland. Distinct from the sophists Hippias of Elis and Hippias of Calacte.

Hippias, the deposed tyrant of Athens, guided the Persian invaders and died at Marathon (490 BC) fighting against his own city. Cicero brands him the criminal extreme, an exile who returned in arms with a foreign army.
