L. Aemilius Paullus Macedonicus, consul 182 and 168 BC, conqueror of Perseus at Pydna (168) and victor of the celebrated triumph of 167. Father of Scipio Aemilianus and Q. Fabius Maximus Aemilianus, model of austere senatorial virtue. He is a standing exemplum in Cicero (Verr. 2.1.55; De off. 2.76).
