L. Aemilius Paulus Macedonicus, consul 182 and 168 BC, victor over Perseus of Macedon at Pydna. Cicero compares his solemn paludatum departure for the Macedonian command in 168 BC with Crassus's now-undignified departure for his Parthian command in 55 BC; both were second-time consuls.

L. Aemilius Paullus Macedonicus, conqueror of Perseus of Macedon at Pydna (168 BC), lost his two younger sons within days of his triumph and spoke of it publicly with Stoic resignation. (The registry also carries a duplicate stub entry, person:l-aemilius-paulus-macedonicus, for the same man.)

L. Aemilius Paulus Macedonicus, victor over King Perseus of Macedon at Pydna (168 BC), told the captive king, who begged not to be paraded in the triumph, that the remedy lay in his own hands (i.e. suicide). The point is the wise man's freedom to leave life.
