Lucius Metellus

also: L. Metellus, L. Metelli, L. Metello

L. Caecilius Metellus, praetor 71 BC and Verres's successor as governor of Sicily 70-69. Brother of Q. Metellus (cos. 69) and M. Metellus (the iudex quaestionis in the trial). His arrival in the province broke many of Verres's arrangements (Verr. 2.1.154; 2.3.123; 2.5.55) but he is treated by Cicero as an obstructive partisan. Consul 68 BC; died in office.
