L. Domitius Ahenobarbus, consul 96 BC, praetor in Sicily c. 97 (where his strict edict barring slaves from arming themselves became the model for later governors, Verr. 2.5.7). Father of the consul of 54. Distinct from the censor of 92.

L. Domitius Ahenobarbus the praetor in Sicily (c. 96 BC), known for the proverbial tale: a shepherd brought him a great boar, and Domitius (on hearing the man had killed it with a hunting-spear, against the standing Sicilian rule that no slave should bear arms) had him crucified at once. Cicero cites it as the standing-strict reading of the no-slave-arms institution.
