One of the creditors of Publius Varius, thought (ridiculously, says Cicero) likely to act as magister bonorum vendendorum — the foreman directing the auction of the bankrupt's goods — if the estate were sold up (Att 1.1.3).

The magister bonorum (vendendorum) presided over the auction of an insolvent debtor's confiscated estate on the creditors' behalf. Cicero calls the suggestion ridiculous because the affair was nowhere near so grand.
