King of Thebes, father of Oedipus. Cicero (De Fato 30) cites the prophecy 'Oedipus will be born to Laius' to illustrate that some fated outcomes are coupled, since Laius's begetting was itself fated.

Laius, father of Oedipus, whose abduction of the boy Chrysippus (in a lost play of Euripides) was the archetypal pederastic crime. Cicero cites it among poetic celebrations of such love.
