Son of the elder Lyso of Lilybaeum (person:lyso-lilybitanus) and grandson of an unnamed notable. His family was one of the highest standing in western Sicily. Cicero commends him to proconsul Glabrio in 46 BC (Fam. 13.34), citing an inherited ancestral guest-friendship (avitum hospitium).

The young Lyso (son of Lyso, grandson of an unnamed ancestor) belongs to the leading family of Lilybaeum, the westernmost city of Sicily and a major Roman administrative centre. His father appears as a witness in the Verrine proceedings (In Verrem 2.4.37), showing the family's longstanding ties with Roman magistrates.
