Marcus Valerius Messala Corvinus (64 BC–AD 8), Roman aristocrat, orator, and general; fought for Brutus at Philippi (42 BC), then submitted to Octavian and became a distinguished Augustan patron of letters. In 43 BC he served as a trusted emissary carrying Cicero's letters to Brutus.
