person
Mato
also: Mato, Matonem
One of the two enemies (with Pollio) whom M. Fadius faces in the dispute over the Herculanean estate (Fam. 9.25). Otherwise unidentified.
Reading notes
- Ad Familiares 9.25 §3 Fadius has Mato and Pollio for enemies
Mato and Pollio are named as M. Fadius's adversaries in the affair; both are otherwise obscure. The Pollio here is not securely the famous orator-historian C. Asinius Pollio. (Date note: the letter belongs to Cicero's Cilician governorship, 50 BC, hence the 'imperator' header, despite its filing among the 46 BC Paetus letters.)
