P. Popillius Laenas, consul 132 BC, organiser of the special tribunal against the supporters of Tiberius Gracchus, exiled by the rogatio Sempronia of C. Gracchus in 123 and recalled in 121 after the deaths of the Gracchi. A standing exemplum of the great man brought low and restored (Verr. 2.4 etc.; Post red. in sen. 37; Pro domo 82).
