Pelops

In Greek myth the son of Tantalus and ancestor of the house of Atreus, who gave his name to the Peloponnese. Cicero names him in the line of kings who held their thrones by right, by contrast with the usurping tyrant.

Pelops, son of Tantalus, won his bride Hippodamia in a chariot race with horses given by Neptune (Poseidon), said to skim over the sea. Cicero pairs them with Arion's dolphin as legendary deliverances at sea.
