Prometheus

The Titan who stole fire from heaven and gave it to mortals, for which Jupiter chained him to the Caucasus where an eagle daily devoured his ever-regrowing liver. Cicero quotes the long lament of the bound Prometheus from Aeschylus's Prometheus (Bound) as a paradigm of extreme bodily suffering.

The chained Titan of Aeschylus's Prometheus Bound, who replies that reason can heal anger only if the remedy is applied 'in good season,' not pressed roughly on a raw wound. Cicero uses it for the right timing of consolation.
