Q. Metellus Macedonicus

Consul of 143 BC and censor, the man whose four sons all reached consular rank; held among the foremost orators. Cicero (Brutus 81) notes he spoke for L. Cotta against Africanus the accuser, and his speech against Ti. Gracchus stood in the Annals of C. Fannius.

Q. Caecilius Metellus Macedonicus (d. 115 BC), proverbial for happiness: blessed with sons who held high office and who, with grandchildren, bore him to the pyre. Cicero contrasts his serene old age and death with the disasters of Priam.
