Consul of 143 BC and censor, the man whose four sons all reached consular rank; held among the foremost orators. Cicero (Brutus 81) notes he spoke for L. Cotta against Africanus the accuser, and his speech against Ti. Gracchus stood in the Annals of C. Fannius.
