Spurius Maelius

A wealthy plebeian killed in 439 BC on suspicion of aiming at kingship through largesses of grain; his house was leveled and the open ground called the Aequimaelium to commemorate the justice of his punishment. Cicero invokes the precedent against Clodius's monument.
