• Ad Atticum 2.6 §1 if Tyrannio shall come in too

  Tyrannio of Amisus, a learned grammarian and geographer living at Rome, brought as a captive by Lucullus. Adding his views would only multiply the scholarly disputes Cicero already despairs of resolving.

• Ad Atticum 4.4A §1 Tyrannio

  Tyrannio of Amisus, the learned Greek grammarian and bibliophile then resident at Rome, whom Cicero had engaged to sort and arrange his library. He directed the shelving and labelling of the rolls.

• Ad Atticum 4.8 §2 Tyrannio

  A learned grammarian from Amisus, brought to Rome as a prisoner of war; he catalogued and arranged Cicero's library, with help from Atticus's slaves Dionysius and Menophilus.

  Tyrannio of Amisus, the Greek grammarian who arranged Cicero's library, and Chrysippus, a learned freedman, were Cicero's go-to men for acquiring, copying, and exchanging books. Good copies, Cicero notes, could not simply be bought.
