Region of south-western Asia Minor (modern south-west Turkey), part of the Roman province of Asia; noted for its Greek cities including Halicarnassus, Mylasa, and Cnidus. In Fam. 2.11 Cicero jokes that the panthers of his Cilician province are emigrating to Caria to escape capture.
