The Kerameikos, a district of ancient Athens (the potters' quarter and chief cemetery) lying between the Dipylon gate and the Academy. Cicero cites it teasingly as a Greek counterpart to his Tusculan villa (Att. 1.10.1).

The Ceramicus was the Athenian quarter and cemetery where honorary statues stood. The famous seated statue of Chrysippus with outstretched hand alluded to his 'hand argument' against pleasure being a good.
