Circus Flaminius

An open public space in the southern Campus Martius at Rome, outside the pomerium, used for markets, games, and public meetings; Pompey was brought to a contio there in 61 BC because he could not enter the city without forfeiting his triumph (Att. 1.14.1).

The Circus Flaminius lay in the Campus Martius outside the pomerium (the sacred boundary), so meetings there could include Pompey, who as a triumphator-in-waiting could not enter the city proper without forfeiting his triumph.
