Greek city on the Bruttian coast of southern Italy. Cicero names it, with Thurii, as an embarkation point should Puteoli prove impossible.

Croton and Thurii were ports on the instep and toe of Italy in the far south; from there Cicero hoped to round the peninsula and sail east, eventually toward Egypt, to reach Pompey by the long way about.
