Fregellae

A Latin colony in the Liris valley of Latium, destroyed by Rome in 125 BC after its revolt; its territory (the ager Fregellanus) was redistributed and absorbed by neighbouring Fabrateria Nova. The landholding C. Valgius Hippianus bought lay in this Fregellan territory (Fam. 13.76).

After Fregellae's destruction in 125 BC its territory (ager Fregellanus) was administered by the neighbouring community Cicero here addresses. Cicero asks that Valgius's purchased holding be confirmed to him "free and exempt" (liberam et immunem), i.e. with clear title and free of local land-tax or other public burdens.
