A river flowing from the European side into the Black Sea (variously identified with the Bug or the Kuban), beside which Aristotle reported short-lived mayflies that live but a single day. Cicero uses it to relativize the human lifespan.

The mayflies (ephemera) of the river Hypanis (the Bug, or the Kuban), reported by Aristotle to live but a single day. Cicero uses them to relativize even the longest human life against eternity.
