A lake in the Sabine country near Reate, drained by Manius Curius Dentatus's channel into the Nar (over the falls now called the Cascata delle Marmore); the drainage dried the Rosian plain and pitted Reate against Interamna (Att. 4.15.5).

As censor (272 BC) Manius Curius Dentatus cut a channel through the rock to drain the Velinus lake into the river Nar, creating the great falls now called the Cascata delle Marmore; the drainage benefited Reate but threatened to flood Interamna downstream.
