Town on the bay of Naples, on the slope of Vesuvius; site of one of Cicero's villas, the Pompeianum, where he stayed before joining Pompey in 49 BC.

The Pompeianum was Cicero's villa near Pompeii on the Bay of Naples; he is setting out by sea on the first leg of the projected voyage to Greece.
- For Publius Sulla §60 the men of Pompeii were pushed by Sulla
Pompeii, the Campanian town where Sulla the dictator had settled veteran colonists, creating friction between the old townsmen and the new colonists. As patron of the colony, P. Sulla was accused of inciting the townsmen; Cicero says he in fact reconciled both groups.
