Cicero's two books on divination, the present work, in which Quintus defends and Cicero refutes the practice. Cicero names it as he sets out the plan of his philosophical corpus.

The art of foretelling the future from omens, dreams, and prophecy. Velleius lists the soothsayers and augurs it would oblige one to revere; Cicero devotes a whole later work, De Divinatione, to the subject.
