Gaius Cassius

C. Cassius Longinus Varus, consul in 73 BC with M. Terentius Varro Lucullus; he was defeated by Spartacus near Mutina that same year. As consul in Verres's first praetorian year he was insulted in his own family interest when Verres extorted produce from his wife's estates at Leontini (Verr. 2.3.97). He had earlier served as legate buying art in the East (Verr. 2.1.60).
