  The disciplina Etrusca was a body of Etruscan religious learning encompassing haruspicy (divination from entrails), lightning-interpretation, and the science of portents; Caecina was a recognised expert and later wrote on it. His father, A. Caecina (the defendant of the Pro Caecina), was a man of high standing at Volaterrae.

  The elder Aulus Caecina of Volaterrae, the defendant whom Cicero successfully represented in the Pro Caecina (c. 69 BC), a landmark speech on Roman property law and the interdict 'uti possidetis'.
