Patro (Epicurean scholarch)

Patro was scholarch (head) of the Epicurean school at Athens after Phaedrus's death c. 70 BC. He sought permission from C. Memmius to build on or preserve the plot of land in Athens where Epicurus's house had stood; Cicero interceded on his behalf in Fam. 13.1. A close acquaintance of Cicero and Atticus, though Cicero disagreed sharply with his philosophy.

Patro was the scholarch of the Epicurean school at Athens, of which Atticus and his circle were 'fellow-students'. Cicero had intervened on Patro's behalf over the threatened demolition of the ruined house of Epicurus, here recalled as 'the ruins at Melita' (the Athenian deme Melite).
