Pharnaces II of Pontus
Pharnaces

King of the Cimmerian Bosporus, son of Mithridates VI; he invaded Asia Minor during Caesar's absence and was crushed by Caesar at Zela in 47 BC (the 'veni, vidi, vici' campaign). Named in Fam. 15.15 as the unexpected terror that prolonged the civil war.

Pharnaces II, king of the Bosporus and son of Mithridates VI, had overrun Pontus and defeated a Roman force; subduing him kept Caesar in the East and so prolonged Cicero's wait. Caesar crushed him at Zela in August 47 BC — the victory of his "veni, vidi, vici."
