Consul 47 BC and close ally of Mark Antony; in 43 BC an active opponent of Cicero in the Senate, rebutted by Cicero's Philippics; governed Gaul until his death in 40 BC.

Q. Fufius Calenus, tribune of the plebs in 61 BC and a partisan of Clodius. A tribune could summon a magistrate or private man to a contio (an informal public meeting, not a voting assembly) and put questions to him before the people.

Quintus Fufius Calenus, a partisan of Caesar who served as his legate, was a long-standing political opponent of Cicero. His presence in Caesar's entourage was a danger to Cicero's appeals for pardon.

Q. Fufius Calenus was Caesar's legate left in command in Greece, to whom defeated Pompeians applied for pardon. Cicero notes that even voluntary suppliants to Fufius were judged merely "timid," not traitors, unlike himself.

The Pompeians stranded in Achaia were applying to Q. Fufius Calenus, Caesar's commander in Greece, for terms. Cicero contrasts their reviving prospects with his own: the delay at Alexandria "set their cause right and overturned mine."

Q. Fufius Calenus was a partisan of Antony; "Calvena" ("baldy") is Cicero's mocking nickname for Gaius Matius, a Caesarian whose loyalty to the dead dictator Cicero distrusted.
