The Amanus mountain range dividing Cilicia from Syria. In Fam. 12.15 deserting troops of Dolabella came down through it from Syria into Cilicia.

The Amanus is the mountain range (modern Nur Daglari) forming the boundary between Cilicia and Syria, its crest marking the watershed. Its slopes harboured the independent 'Eleutherocilician' brigand-tribes Cicero attacked.

Mount Amanus is the range dividing Cilicia from Syria; the two passes are the Amanic and Syrian Gates, narrow defiles that a small force could hold, which is why Cicero judged Cilicia easily defensible but Cappadocia exposed.
