War with Antiochus (Syrian War)

the war with Antiochus

also: bellum Antiochinum, Antiochene war

The Roman war (192-188 BC) against Antiochus III of Syria, in which Lucius Scipio Asiaticus held the command in Asia. Cicero cites it as a precedent for entrusting great wars to magistrates rather than to private men by extraordinary command.
