Mater Idaea

also: Mother of Ida

The Great Mother of the Gods (Cybele), so called from Mount Ida in Phrygia; her cult was officially received at Rome from Pessinus in 204 BC during the Hannibalic War. Cicero names her sanctuary among the holy places Verres did not spare (In Verrem 2.5).
