gens Papiria

Papirii

also: Papirii, Papisii, the Papirii, Papirius, gens Papiria

The Roman gens Papiria (archaic spelling Papisii, before rhotacism), which had both patrician branches among the minores gentes (Mugillani, Crassi, Cursores, Massones) and plebeian branches (Carbones, Turdi). L. Papirius Paetus belonged to the gens; in Fam. 9.21 Cicero refutes Paetus's claim that the family was wholly plebeian.
