group
Volcae
also: the Volcae
A confederation of Gallic peoples in southern Gaul, divided between the Volcae Arecomici around Nemausus (Nimes) and the Volcae Tectosages around Tolosa (Toulouse). Both branches lay within the Transalpine province and contributed to the Gallic delegation that prosecuted Fonteius in 69 BC. Cicero in Pro Fonteio dismisses them as hostile barbarian witnesses incapable of the gravitas owed to Roman testimony.
